King of Sword and Sky (Tairen Soul #3) by C.L. Wilson

King of Sword and Sky (Tairen Soul, #3)

The third book in the Tairen Soul series has led me to the infinite conclusion that C.L. Wilson is a romance/fantasy literary phenom.

We've followed along the journey with Rain and Elly as they have traversed a path laden with obstacles, ranging from past love/war hang-ups, prejudice against Fey kind, fear of a growing darkness in the Eld, and a mating bond that has not completely formed into place.

How to describe this book and it's vast amount of twists turns, intrigue, and soul without completely ruining it for you....hmmm.

Imagine you are riding a bicycle through the forest.

The Beginning:
You see wonderous creations around you, a fantastical world of magic and wonder as you peddle along at a nice leisurely pace. The sun is shining, your hopes are high, and you feel as though you are physically becoming a part of the world around you.

Elly and Rain have traveled back to the fading lands, where we further learn about Elly's magic and her ties to the Eld, Fey and Tairens. We also get a glimpse at the horrors of Rains past during the Eld wars, and why he keeps a part of himself from Elly (< which I come to suspect is WHY the true bond has not snapped into place between them).

The Middle:
You ride that bicycle on and on, and things start to get a little repetitive. You see tree after tree, plant after plant, squirrels having long winded political chats and jargon galore. Every once in a while there is a glimpse of something sparkly in the distance, but you just keep losing track of it, and wondering when it will get back to the interesting parts.

The middle of the story kind of dragged for me. While we learned new information regarding why the Fading Lands are dieing, there are still so many questions unanswered, and the list of them just seems to be growing. That's not to say that there were moments of some minor excitement, but it felt like a lot of political machinations needed addressing and I found myself skimming to a certain extent. (I'm not usually an impatient person, but I came to a point where I had SOOO many questions sitting in my head that I really Really needed to find the answers to).

And Finally, The Ending:

You're biking on and on, and as you near the end of your journey, you can't help but feel an overwhelming sense of dread. As if something bad is looming in the distance, you'd like to turn around and go back, but it's too late now. Suddenly, the turbo boosters strapped onto your peddles (the ones you conveniently forgot about) kick on and you hit the sound barrier at mock speed. You're adrenaline is beyond healthy proportions, your heart is pounding, but there's just no stopping this crazy train. Cause your brakes have gone out....
Full speed ahead.

The ending. Woah nelly. It was almost like you could feel the doom on the horizon. You could even taste it in your cheerios. With AS MINIMAL AMOUNT OF SPOILERS AS POSSIBLE, I will let you know that the ending, Kicked some serious A$$.
We got answers, characters we have desperately wanted to get answers Finally got them, and war has officially begun.
The thought of the ending being such a deliciously powerful semi-cliffhanger has me jumping onto Amazon to immediately purchase the next book. I'm in this for the long haul baby.

"To victory and life!" the warriors cried.
Rain summoned the Change, took Ellysetta on his back, and shot into the sky, leaving his plain warrior's leathers where they lay, the skin of his old life, now shed forever."

( SIDE NOTE ) In an earlier review I did of the first book in the series Lord of The Fading Lands, I mentioned how much I disliked Rain constantly doing comparisons of Elly to his past (heart mate) Sariel. My wee frozen heart has been made happy by the fact that we finally see Rain's feeling described when they cross through the Fading Lands mist.

"The sight of her didn't rip at his heart the way it always had before Ellysetta. Now, her image only filled him with sadness for the beautiful Fey maiden whose millennia of life had been cut so short."

"Rain, the mate of Sariel, had died a thousand years ago on a bloody battlefield just north of Teleon. A different Rain had risen from the ashes, born the day Ellysetta Baristani's soul had called out and his had answered. From that moment on, no other - not even the woman for whom he'd once scorched the world - could lay claim to any portion of Rain's heart or soul."

Happy. This makes me damn happy. Not only that Rain has finally come to accept Sariel's death, but that he (at least to our knowledge since it's the first time we've heard him think it) knows that Elly is not just his souls mate, but his hearts as well.

Happiness.

The Proposition by Cassie Cole

Image result for the proposition cassie cole

Well, sometimes you feel it.

Other times, you feel it in the booty. coughcoughwink

And what a pain that is, lemme tell ya.

I've read quite a few books by Cassie Cole now and have discovered A LOT more about what it takes to build, maintain, and sustain your own Male Harem.

I, just like every other steam loving women out there, have read these books much like a 'How To' guide in the hopes that one day, I too, could have my own bodybuilder-esque Harem of men waiting to indulge my every want and need.

(even though I know my awkward A$$ would end up responding to a hot guy proposition all Ala Gene Wilder)
Oh the life of an introvert...

BUT STILL

I was game.
I was ready.

Until...I got kinda tired.

Where in books Cole has written in the past, I feel the investment, that overwhelming draw to each and every partner in the puzzle, the forbidden love and rocky bumps of emotional attachments forming....Kinda like Tetris....but with more ding dong...and booty <s> COUGH </s>

I don't know if it was just the overall jumping strait into the fire with the relationships in this book, or perhaps it was my disinterest with the underlying story line, That was kinda overwhelmed with all the COPIOUS AMOUNT OF GRATUITOUS LOVE MAKING HAPPENING (which I'm so usually Here For, but just didn't feel...necessary)
And come on...the Big Twist on the bad guy here...Maybe I'm just a psychic, but honestly saw that brick coming from six blocks over.

So, maybe it was that, we started to get into the emotional side of each one of her BOYS and why they wanted her or why they tried to resist, but then we quickly jump to them gettin' jiggy with it....and promptly forget any hangups...cause....sex = Love....right?

1's a party
2's a tower
3's for power
but 4......I feel like I just need a shower.

And where i found that each of the guys could potentially have their own types of underlying thing, they all pretty much blended together at one point. Which was sad because one of the things I love about these complex relationships is that each character IS significantly different from one another.

(Unrelated Side Note:)
I shall also be adding to the Dictionary of Words That Will Make Me Dry Heave No Matter The Context That They Are Used In.  Because I will physically bleed from my eyes and ears if I ever see or hear the word  gape  used in the context I heard it here EVER AGAIN.

 Anyways, back to it.

But I think my real frustration lies with the lead here: Nadia.
This could just be a severe case of  "It's Me, Not You", but I really just didn't like her.
We never really got any story about here life (family, early life, etc.), and just kinda had to go with the premise that she is a fantastic dancer, singer, and actor. Plus, she's a freak. So. Yeah.

I didn't like how quick she was to jump all over each of these guys (which is totally calling the kettle black her, cause if I was in her shoes..)

I might have forgiven it, IF there had been some sign of emotional setbacks, but nah. Girl was strait up ready to go 24/7.

And the Butt. OHHHHH HO HO Don't even get me started on that cup of tea honey.
Judas Priest sister. Take it easy will ya.
I get it. Some people are into that. Me? Not so much (or more accurately not NEARLY as much as Nadia.)

It could have just been a perfect storm of circumstances here for me, but the whole thing just left me feeling pretty meh. So here I am. Wallowing in my MEHness.

I still want that harem tho...

Zoya by Danielle Steel

**Spoiler Alert**
(cause I'm a liar, but to do this book the justice it deserves, it just has to happen. Sorry)

I was given this book as a gift from my grandma a little over two years ago. Now, being the lover of all romance books labeled as steamy , this one was definitely not at the top of my too reads. Well, here I was yesterday, guiltily staring at the beautiful 1988 cover of this giant hardcover book and finally after subconscious guilt really socked it to me, I caved. FINE. Lets do this.

Oh. Boy.
This frickin' book.
I wish I could genuinely find the words to properly convey the vast array of emotions that went down through the harrowing experience that was my reading of Danielle Steels, Zoya
I shall use interpretive gifs and the simplest terms of what I felt.
Buckle up bitches.
Here is my review of Zoya.

Related image

At first I was feeling pretty confident.
I'm two chapters deep and pretty well immersed in the world of Russian Royalty, as well as falling in love with all the characters we get introduced to.
 BUT UH OH BABY.
Apparently in Danielle Steel books its a trap.

Everything. EVERY. DAMN. THING.
It was like Danielle Steel had a personnel vendetta against Zoya and proceeded to strait up John Wick each of the characters she diligently added to the story and built on your affection for.
She makes you care for them.
Then she takes care of them.
Like, quite LITERALLY, takes care of them.
Strait up.

She feels like the George R.R. Martin of romance.
Her hit list includes Zoya's:
 brother.
 mother.
 father.
 grandmother.
 trusty man servant.
the entire sector of the Romanov's (her cousins, one of which her best friend Maria).
 Zoya's first husband.
 Zoya's second husband.
Zoya's daughter (with her first husband).
 Zoya's late in life lover.
AND, lastly but definitely most furiously,
HER GodDamn DOG.
SERIOUSLY. The FEELZ, is REALZ.

I don't know if it was just how the relationships were established and developed over time here, or that i'm just a big blubbering mess, but good god this whole book had me going from
to
and finally
Seriously.
And in case I haven't used the word SERIOUSLY enough, perhaps now we can fully understand that I am in no way, shape, or form PLAYIN'.
This book.
It did me in.
Evidence to prove that point; I strictly keep a sleep schedule where I am literally in bed by 8 and asleep by 8:30. It is now 10:15 here on the west coast and not only am I not in bed, nonono, but I have actually LEFT my great domain of comfort to write this review because, like I said...

The FEELz, is REALz.

But why you may ask? Was it any good? It made you cry so... it can't be THAT good right?

My honest answer: this was damn solid good read.

Was it something different than anything I've read before? Yeah.
Have I been in a book slump and apparently needed something that was going to take an emotional wrecking ball to my temporal lobe and blow out my tear ducts? Heh, apparently.

So in conclusion, yeah this book was pretty dang good.
It was decently entertaining
It had a bit of romance(which was like, literally bare minimum on my steam scale. BUT I'm letting it slide because emotionally I just didn't have any compunction for steam at any point throughout.)
It had a rich (if slightly loose) basis in actual historical events.
Finally, it had a heroine whose story was so freaking tragically dramatic that I, among all others who see a train wreck happening and can't seem to look away, genuinely could not look away.

I found myself praying throughout the book that it would end on the 'happily ever after' ending.
In it's own special way. it did.
Was it a classical romance where the man of her dreams and her ride off into the sunset to their castle of no-mo-troubles land? No. (and please for the love of GOD don't go into this book expecting that.)

In fact a lot of the peace you get at the ending is that such a strong women endured such horrors and still came out the other side.

I could only hope that in Miss Steel's world, Zoya someday is able to ride off into her own sunset.
God knows that girl deserved it.

*Side Track Note*:
Being someone of the non-fiery red/copper/flameish color hair variety, I found the excessive descriptions of Zoya's hair color to be......well...excessive.
You got good locks babe, cool.
Or is this chick the walking equivalent of cousin IT, cause all peoples reactions to her, have to do with her hair.
Move along.

It's amazing that a pet peeve I have in books written in recent times, can transcend the power of time, to ALSO be in various books of the past.
But alas, that just seems to be romance baby.

The Melier: Prodigal Son by Poppy Rhys

Feathers, scales, tails, and Wolvenk. Oh My!

Another fantastic addition to the Women of Dor Nye series into the basket. And it was shootin' nothin' but strait net baby.

Poppy Rhys weaves the weird, strange, funny, and fantastical all together to create one hell of an entertaining read.
And lets be real; her creativity when it comes to steamy times between humans and aliens leaves you considering abduction.

(Take me awaaaaaaaayyy, the sweet escaaaaaaappe)

It's very difficult to write this review, because I don't want to give a single thing away, about the story or Dania/Val'Koy/Jruviin's relationship. But lets just say, it's more than worth every second.

And River GAAAAHHHHH. So dang friggin snuggle bug fiercely cute.
Like a vicious hybrid Octopus wolf thingy. If that makes any sense....at all...

Now. Gi'Ren's book please. Thank you!

Credence by Penelope Douglas

 WARNING
This review contains  little to NO spoilers at all because,
Baby,
you deserve to go into this book just as blind as I did, and you will be so thankful for it.

So, if you're off to fall into this beautiful bastard,

Enjoy Boo.

If you are for some reason still reading this, buckle in. Strap up. And hold onto your butts, cause this is going to be one B*tch of a review to write.
Especially since I had to take a personal day to contemplate the degree of book hungover I was feeling.

Something that no amount of greasy food, Cabernet Sauvignon , or Pedialite could cure.

But for those who have read P.D. books before know this is pretty much a standard procedure for a post-book period.

Give or take a few months depending on which series it is.
I, like many others, fell into a Penelope Douglas book completely by chance. It popped up on one of my recommended tabs and for some reason, my eyeballs were immediately drawn to it.

(SIDE NOTE: for those of you have not read Bully, Go. Enjoy. Embrace. Your. Emotions.)
From then on it was what i refer to as the Slippery Slope effect; one book turns into two, two days turns into seven, and suddenly it's the fourth of July and you haven't seen sunlight or your loved ones since September.

Crack, Cocaine, Meth, Penelope Douglas books, Marijuana.
All things that will inevitably lead you to bouts of mania, obsession, possessiveness, and above all: ADDICTED
(Honesty Point: I have not, nor do I condone, the use of any drugs of the non-paperback reader type variety. Proceed.)

So,  Credence. Wow. What an absolute journey. The emotions carried throughout this book is something to truly be in awe of. It covers some pretty interesting topics (one of which being emotional abuse) that I think was portrayed in such an honest way, that you could begin to relate with the characters feelings. No matter how disturbed or confusing their choices may have been.

What Really Drew Me In: The highlight of possible Taboo content.
Ya Girl likes em weird. I like em Freaky. And when I see a favorite author jumping into the pot, better believe I am no brakes-full speed ahead up in this Bish.

For those who may be frightened by this label, Don't Be. Trust me. It's going to be okay, you are going to be just fine, and who knows, you might do some self discovery on this journey.

Final Thoughts:

This book was a beautifully woven tale of the acceptance of oneself, forgiveness, and the value of family whether it's your birth or chosen.
I don't believe the weaves of this story could have been more perfectly performed in a masterful way. I'm counting down the days until February 14th for the special bonus scene! Who knew one could be so hung up over the mystery of some missing panties.
Anyway.
Credence; couldn't have picked a more fitting title.

Welcome

Welcome one and all to the home space of my delightfully strange, weird, romantic and steamy book reviews.

Due to completely bogus rules and regulations regarding the "Maximum of 500 characters or less," for a Blog description, (aka Bologna) I have decided to truly introduce my blog here.

Purely so you don't start reading various reviews and posts and think that it is necessary to call for mental evaluations to be made (been there done that) after reading through some of my glorious madness via book reviews.

My main goal of creating this space was to be able to have a reliable place to keep and contain all the madness that doth occur when i get into what i like to call the writing zone. Or better known as the, "Bitch look at me with my opinions and shit."
Cause everyone cares about those now a days, right?
But also to keep all my reviews and thoughts in a more central area, rather than pumping them out on God knows where. Mainly because I am, in fact, a little bit nuts. And will lose track of my marbles unless I keep them in one place.

Any who, i got off track there. Where was I?

Ah yes. Why I'm here waffling on.

Ever looked at the title/description/cover of a book and thought to yourself, "What the Hell am I getting myself into here?"

Have no fear, FlewB'Doo is here to take away all your pre-purchase book sorrows, (or PBBS: post-bad book syndrome) without taking any of that unread book magic.

I enjoy reading, but after a little bit of self-journey-esque discovery, I came out on the other side realizing I have a deeply unhealthy obsession with any and all romance. I am in no way, shape or form picky about the varying degrees that romance comes in.
Be that:
Historical
Contemporary
Paranormal
Erotic
Fantasy
Dark
Scifi
Etc.etc.etc.

I found that romance is like a good wine. Comes in lots of shades, tastes and prices...
And home girl will always throw back an entire bottle.
My Personal Motto: Romance? Yes. Steamy Romance? Absolutely. Strange/Bizarre Romance? TAKE MY GODDAMN MONEY.

NOTICE: Any book reviews are from my top brain (rarely the lower portion) and are filled with my utter and complete honesty. I appreciate all opinions and view points, so please don't fight me if you don't like anything in particular.

I tend to be sarcastic, and like to find the humor in most things. I love making people laugh and find myself most drawn to the reviews that are honest, strait-forward, limited on spoilers, and can Give Me A Good Chuckle.
Al reviews are minimal spoilers, BECAUSE THE FUN OF A BOOK IS BEING INVESTED IN THE TWISTS, TURNS, WTF'S, AND NEVER AGAIN'S you will inevitably face.

So, to you dear reader, or anyone who may have fallen down the rabbit hole and somehow-which-way or what-not stumbled upon this blog, Welcome.

Lets get honest. Romantic. Weird. And, of course, Steamy.
